This weekend, as soon as I entered the Santa Barbara International Orchid Show, I was immediately struck by the works of Westerlay! The designer seamlessly integrated the blue ocean and sand with moth orchids, creating a perfect visual art design. What's even more impressive is that while admiring the artwork, you can walk right into it and take photos, giving you the chance to personally experience the feeling of being immersed in the artwork—such a creative design! After the exhibition, the staff at the information center recommended we take a walk to admire their amazing orchid factory. The store has beautiful moth orchids, and the staff are incredibly thoughtful. They told me about the $10 orchids, 3 for $10, which come in two different racks with various colors. These are perfect for beginners to easily start cultivating and experience the joy of growing moth orchids. I also noticed a beautiful heart-shaped arrangement made with large moth orchids at the counter, which had an elegant, high-quality feel. Incredible selection of Phalaenopsis orchids. We picked up three, all very healthy and nicer than I've seen anywhere else.

Anyone notice they have updated their website, which no longer accepts reviews! What does that tell you..... zero stars. I bought a double stem orchid plant from Westerlay and five weeks later it had Mealy Bug infestation. I now understand this period of time is typical for the orange eggs to hatch into the furry little grey creatures. I called the retail store and left a message, but no one called me back. I threw out the $21.00 plant immediately! I didn’t know what a mealy bug was until now. My orchids are kept inside, four floors up, and I don’t open the windows. My three beautiful nine year old orchid plants with a combined 54-60 beautiful blooms twice per year now have mealy bugs from that orchid…. Shame on Westerlay Orchids!

It seems like there are quite a few horrible reviews and here is mine top add to the bunch. I was given a Kokedamas as a gift and it was beautiful. Unfortunately, despite following instructions on the label, it died within two weeks. I called the company and the person taking calls was awful, rude and in the end, simply hung up on me after telling me I was rude. So ironic. I simply asked if I could have a new one sent to me and the answer was a complete "NO". She said it was my fault it dies because I overwatered it. I told her that I followed instructions on their label. I then asked if there was anyone else to talk with and she said no. I asked if she prefer if I do an online review and she said, "you can do whatever you want, we don't care". Oh well. I guess that some businesses don't mind having this kind of an image.

The showroom is amazing and my got to for gifts and plants. I just stopped in today to pick up some houseplants for a photo shoot (I am a Realtor) and the gal working was so helpful. Had me in and out with exactly what I needed in 10 minutes. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable! It’s also just so gorgeous inside…makes me happy walking in.
